In a giant stadium packed tight with teeming buffs,
An intense competition is unfolding by the pool side,
A crowning glory moment is in store for the eventual champion,
For the citation will read “Fastest swimmer in the world”,
Time recorders ready, referees ready, and the pressure mounting,
The race begins with big splashes, every swimmer stoking the best he got,
This one swimmer here though is outgunning everyone else,
Strong, confident arms delivering thrusts that out-propel,
The stalwart's hand touches down the finish line in record time,
A brand new record in tow, the world fetes its "Fastest Ever” swimmer.
World's fastest this, world's biggest that,
World's strongest this, world's greatest that,
Billions and billions of people inhabiting this world,
Are the World's best superlative to everyone else?
Oh! But not every feat that happens in this world,
Happens in the gaze of the world's eye at a championship.
Fishing, cooking, and camping – a perfect plan for a lazy vacation,
Two friends got together by a lake side on a balmy day,
One began setting up the tents by the shore; the other went fishing in the middle,
Just then the boat capsized, a watery grave looming large over its former occupant,
With no swimming skills to speak, he was to be a sure deposit to bottom of lake,
Throbbing pressure mounting, adrenaline pulsating, another swim race began that moment,
This one was against dying time though, and the friend on the shore vowed to give it his best,
He swam like a man possessed; his hands relentlessly fought the water with his iron will,
A stalwart he too was, for he rescued his friend and brought him back to the shore in good time,
With no time recorders, no referees, and no public officials in attendance,
The world will never know if he was another individual worthier still of that title.
