Nestled remotely in nature’s own backyard,
But not too far away from the city's courtyard,
Is one very serene lake that not many often visit,
For dull and dreary is how the trips might get to be,
The silent lake’s inner beauty is too meagre a diet,
For those seeking an indulgence and overload of their city bred senses.
The city brims with people busy and engaged everywhere,
Moving here and there, everyone is on something to be done,
Not many leave the precincts of the city to be away for long,
For going away means fasting their senses and breaking their souls,
It is bravery indeed to give up on this veritable feast of senses,
Which satiates the cravings of a city born and bred life...
One evening, showing a new friend around the city, we wandered too far,
Three people, my friend, my nephew and I, came to be at the lake,
With the customary exclamation of the lake’s beauty ending quickly,
A daft game ensued of who could throw stones farthest into the lake,
Having taken in the panoramic views and thrown out the stones,
The visit to the lake thus ended, and our lives adjusted back to the city soon.
The city and the lake, only a few hours’ worth of distance away yet poles apart,
One is a modern invention of man to keep himself deeply busy,
The other, the creation of nature, to keep herself inanely beautiful,
City bred like lab bred, I wonder if the human genome is altered,
Moments which could be spent in serene beauty reflecting intrinsically,
Are now a lot like proverbial needles lost in haystack of extrinsic madness.
